8 Offbeat Tips for Recruitment Marketing on Social Media

8 Offbeat Tips for Recruitment Marketing on Social Media Social media can play a huge role in the recruitment process these days. Not only are recruiters using it more and more to source candidate, but in turn the candidates would use it to check out the company and get a feel for who they are; which is why recruitment marketing is becoming more and more essential. By adopting  marketing strategies used by consumer brands, you can improve your chance of  attracting the best talent for your open positions. Much like if you were selling a product, you need to figure out who your target audience is and whats going to get their attention. 1) Thank your followers: Content marketing is really effective for recruitment, as by sharing interesting articles  (your own or curated from other sources) that is likely to be of interest to your target audience, they are  likely to respond to it or share it with their network. If they do so, its only polite to thank them! An auto-generated thank you message is  fine if you would just like to thank people for following your account, but if they are engaging with or sharing your content with their network, its important that they get a human response from you. You can personalise your interactions  by looking at their profile and complimenting/commenting on something they shared. @NetworkNatter Thanks for sharing! Do you think employee perks are an important factor for talent attraction? Undercover Recruiter (@UndercoverRec) September 30, 2015 2) Join weekly hashtag themes: Nobody enjoys a Monday morning. Weekends whizz by far too quickly and were left feeling groggy and wanting to crawl back under the duvet. So why not give your followers a motivation boost to help them through the day? Everyone loves a motivational quote or Monday morning meme, because theyre easy to relate to. Get sharing and be sure to use the relevant hashtags, such as #MondayMotivation. The same goes for #FridayFeeling!  Get your audience feeling great and excited for the weekend by posting some end of the week positivity! Its always easier to get through those last few hours on a Friday afternoon when youre provided with fun and amusing content to egg you on towards the finishing line! Try to also get  involved in conversations about trending topics or  hashtags, as this will expand your reach and brand awareness to everyone who is browsing posts about the topic. Try to keep things positive and uplifting, as people are more likely to follow an account if they have something encouraging or optimistic to say. #InternationalCoffeeDay so why not grab a cup and have a browse through our current vacancies http://t.co/w1REJTqIKN pic.twitter.com/qqE5WPFHAh Redmill Consulting (@redmillr) September 29, 2015 3) Images speak a thousand words: Updates that include an image generally receive a much higher level of engagement than text, so get visual wherever possible!  These images can be your own, such as photographs of your own,  sourced elsewhere, or even funny memes or GIFs. Just make sure theyre high quality. Sharing photographs of your employees at work or attending events is a great way to build your employer brand and show the human side of the company. Great event. pic.twitter.com/IcaRCDfSJW Network Marketing (@NetworkNatter) September 18, 2015 4) Dont be afraid to be different: Quirky content will get you noticed! Dont be afraid of sounding a little silly, as humour and personality is something that a lot of people value and look for from a brand when they decide to follow them on social media. Funny or unusual content is also more likely to be shared by other users, so get them laughing! Im not a marketing recruitment consultant, Im a wild pig rooting for truffles! pic.twitter.com/JlaNthS1N6 Simon D. Davies (@_SimonDDavies) October 1, 2015 5) Encourage user generated content: By inviting your followers and employees to share their own content related to your brand or an event that youve held, it increases your exposure and builds a sense of community. You can develop brand-specific hashtags for your fans to share their content on, collecting it all in one place and making it easier to browse through. Sharing some of the best posts shared by your followers or launching a competition are great ways to get people involved. Posting updates during the lunch hour and evening are also good times to catch users. #TransformingLives Have you seen our CV Tips video? These run on a CPM basis and are a great way of building awareness of your brand or a particular product. Try running an ad for 4-5 days each fortnight and when it stops getting impressions , change the image and copy slightly and re-run. [Image Credit: Shutterstock]

Improve Your Career in Education

Improve Your Career in Education Image credit Thinking about turning your career in education up a gear? Good for you. If teaching is your passion you should aim to go as far and as high as possible. To do this, you need to go back into education yourself to improve. It takes a lot of time to become a senior educator. You need to apply yourself and work hard to improve your stand within a school or as an individual educator. Getting better qualifications will open a lot of doors for teachers and educators. Not only may it put you up for a promotion, it could take you up the pay scale. You don’t stop learning about the profession once you’re qualified either. Experience in the classroom is essential to hone your craft. Here are three ways you can further your career in education and continue to succeed. Online Home Courses If you are not close enough to a College or University, or don’t want to pay extreme amounts for tuition, specialized courses through services like the Teacher’s Learning Centre can be ideal. These course are usually done in your own time. Don’t make any mistake about it being an easy ride though. You are subject to the same hard training you will get elsewhere. The isolation of these kinds of courses can be a little troubling for some. Working in a bubble without hands-on instruction can be difficult if you feel you are not understanding the material. In some cases, courses will have access to a tutor for you to speak to. Formal Education For both part-time and full-time education, going to College or University can be expensive. Tuition can be a turn off for many people. There are however a number of benefits from going into a focussed classroom environment. Not only do you have a tutor to interact with, but classmates to work and bond with. Even if you are not a very social person, having a tutor to guide you through the course is very helpful. Courses can be very vigorous. If you are going to go into part-time or full-time education like this you need to be prepared for the work load. Courses can consist of both paper-based work and exams. Night School Similar to formal education, but during different hours and with different schedules. This is an option if you want to study in a classroom but have to keep working. One major drawback to doing this would be the threat of burning out. Working all day and studying at night may result in exhaustion. If you opt for this learning method you have to be ready to work a lot. If you have a good work ethic and really want the qualification more than anything, you will succeed. It is wise to keep a schedule when doing night school. Balancing your personal, work, and education lives are essential. If you are unable to meet the needs of your work or your education, it is time to reassess the situation. Similarly if your personal life is significantly suffering.

What Makes a Good Boss

What Makes a Good Boss From the ridiculous antics of David Brent in ‘The Office’ to greedy Montgomery Burns in The Simpsons, there are many awful fictional managers on TV. What about in real life?   The stats from Kimble’s recent survey on workplace attitudes “The Boss Barometer” don’t do all that much to contradict that picture. Apparently more than two-thirds of British workers feel they could do their job just as well or even better without their boss’s input.   However, even on TV, there is the occasional helpful manager   such as optimistic Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation. The good news is that a third of employees seem to feel that their real-life boss actually adds value and helps them to succeed in their roles. So what are the kinds of things that employees value in their managers and want to see more of? How do you avoid being the kind of boss who becomes the reason good employees go on job hunting sites because around three-quarters of the respondents said that the relationship with the boss is a factor in whether they stay or go.   Here are some pointers from the survey data.   1. Employees Don’t Want to be Told What to Do Three-quarters of people surveyed say they want to work in a more collegiate and collaborative environment. Only one in five said they prefer to work somewhere where the boss takes all the decisions. However, only a quarter of British workers said that their boss regularly consults them when making important decisions.   Having been a manager in the technology industry for more than 30 years, I am a big advocate of decentralized decision-making. It is often the people on the ground who understand the context of situations best.   As organizations grow, they can develop bureaucracy. Bottlenecks where the people on the ground have to pass information up and wait for a decision to come down.   An alternative approach is to use technology to increase transparency. Share the information and insights people need to make decisions, and then let them get on with it. 2. Employees want more responsibility More than two-thirds of workers,   67 percent said they want to take more responsibility at work. Only a third said they don’t want this. Giving people more responsibility might involve handing over a whole job instead of breaking it into small tasks and giving those out. That means letting the employee set the budget, clarify the outcomes, work out what ‘done’ looks like, what ‘success’ looks like and what the milestones are and when they have been reached.   Even a junior member of staff can be asked to set a budget for something they are working on as long as help is there if they need it and they are not held responsible for things they can’t control such as currency fluctuations.   Doing things this way enables individuals and teams to build their skills. And it is more engaging to take responsibility for something than to be instructed to take on a series of small tasks for someone who is looking over your shoulder. If you are responsible for something you can take credit for it when it goes well. Four in ten of the survey respondents said they feel that managers sometimes take credit for their work. That’s a worrying statistic recognizing employees’ success and hard work is a key skill for motivating and engaging your team. 3. Employees value managers who coach and motivate and who don’t procrastinate Asked to choose the most important qualities in a manager, half of the survey respondents said “the ability to motivate”. A quarter said “the ability to make decisions”. The next two choices were, the ability to coach 14% and the ability to delegate 10%. We are moving away from a world where it is seen as the bosss job to tell people what to do. It is the boss’s job to provide clarity of mission and to remove obstacles to the team’s success. It is also important not to procrastinate. Encourage people to bring solutions to you and not problems. And when they do bring them, I would encourage you to accept the proposed solution immediately. If there are any concerns, as long as there is a culture in a place where people are encouraged to raise issues and not suppress them, the person will bring them up. And if you have concerns, you might ask what information the decisions are based on, to make sure that everyone is on the same page with that. Expectations of managers are high and in many cases, people don’t seem to feel they are being managed effectively. That’s an issue for employee retention and for engagement and workplace culture. If people aren’t being managed well, they are unlikely to be performing at their highest level.   But the answers are not complicated. Kimble’s survey shows that employees are not looking to work for bosses who know all the answers and tell everyone what to do. Being a good manager is much more about building and maintaining a great team.     Being a good manager starts with listening and the employees in our survey gave some clear suggestions. Communicate effectively, establish a positive culture, hand over responsibility and recognize success.   As the real-life boss, Steve Jobs once said, “It doesnt make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.” About the author: Mark Robinson is CMO at Kimble Applications, a leading PSA fuelling the growth of the worlds most agile services firms.

Success Story African Student Turned Global Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Who is Willard Barure? My name is Willard Barure and I am a global brand. I am outgoing , good humoured and emotionally stable although i am not seeing anyone at the moment. I am a University student and i am an establishing stand up comedian who is lloking to elevate myself to an international actor`s status.I am also a gender activist apart from being a talented musician and poet. Willard Barures Story I first met Dan when I was thinking about re-branding myself as a Marketing Student ready to launch a successful career path and my quest for Knowledge led me to Dan through his personal Brand E-blog issues. I have to say I was blown off by what Dan was talking about, never in my life had I imagined myself as a brand vis â€"a â€"vis a corporate brand and I never imagined that my e-blogs could actually create lasting impressions and as such shape the total brand experience ,me. With this new view I began consciously positioning myself as a marketing student with visible distinctive competencies and I practically created my own network using blogs like Hi5.com and Facebook.com which helped me to become a stronger brand. I say this because I used this platform to successfully run for a post in The Student Representative Council at Midlands State University, Zimbabwe. I also played a major role in helping to redress toxic masculinity traits amongst male students her at Midlands State University and the intervention programme was recognized as the best practice model by Oxfam Australia. There is no price for guessing whose face was chosen for the Cover page; mine, plus my profile was featured in the case study. As I roll out my career path I have developed a passion for event management, and I am the Founder and President of PRACTIKAL, a creativity student welfare organization (www.practikalminds.cfsites.org). I am looking forward to finding an internship in one of the reputable firms in America so I can gain invaluable experience in a much faster paced economy and can strategically position myself as the global brand. An interesting thing to note is that although me and Dan were born in the same year, 1983, he has already achieved far much more than I have, I guess this is because he has mastered the mystery of identifying, creating and understanding the personal brand.

How To Figure Out What Matters Most To You, And Be True To Yourself - Kathy Caprino

How To Figure Out What Matters Most To You, And Be True To Yourself Part of my new series Ask Kathy Dear Kathy, I follow your work and love your messages about braving up and honoring what matters most, but I need your help on that. I’m a 54-year-old professional woman, and I’ve had a great run at a number of professional directions, including writing a series of books that were very successful, to serving on boards of two renowned foundations, and fundraising for several important health causes. All that said, I just don’t feel I’ve really had the “success” I deserve, and I’m still lacking in confidence to determine what I want to do next, and secondly, to take action on these ideas.   I find that I’m constantly distracted by a million different projects and new ideas, but I can’t seem to sink my teeth into one and just go for it.   What can you suggest to help me figure out what to do? Thank you for your help, Jenny _________________________________________________ Dear Jenny: Thanks for your honesty and openness in sharing your situation.   So many people will resonate with your story, and particularly, with your feeling that despite all the amazing successes you have achieved, you lack the confidence and sense of self-worth and value to take yourself to the next level and identify and pursue what you care about most. I’d like to address here the phenomenon I see in some many women today, which is a blocked vision about how they are amazing, unique, special and important in the world.   The first problem is that, when something comes very easily to us â€" say, writing, or public speaking, or connecting others, or brainstorming fabulous new ideas â€" we just don’t see our talents for what they are. They seem like “no big deal” and we ask “Well, can’t everyone do this?” The answer to that is an emphatic “NO!”  Very few people have your powerful combination of innate talents, passions, perspective and ability, and your special way of operating, thinking and perceiving.   And not everyone can do what you do in the way you do it.   You are truly one of a kind.   So the first tip is to start looking at what you do with an eye for appreciating how important, needed, and special it really is. Another important dimension to this is understanding your special style of taking action. My research has shown that there are six dominant action styles  that people demonstrate. Honoring your own natural style is critical if you want to love the work you do as well as achieve lasting reward and success in it. Many people are finding that when they identify exactly how they like to pursue action towards and goal, and what motivates them passionately, they can then better identify the new directions that will bring them fulfillment and satisfaction. Secondly, regarding confidence, I’d love to share some wonderful insights from my friend and colleague, Richie Norton, the author of the book The Power of Starting Something Stupid: How to Crush Fear, Make Dreams Happen Live Without Regret. In his book, Richie talks about how to move forward and lean forward into your “stupid” idea â€" to not shy away from it, but embrace it fully, so you can make your dreams happen and live without regret.   Doing what’s necessary to walk into “stupid” helps you do what’s required to come out on the other side to stupendous. Here’s what Richie shares about how to crush your fear: “It’s not the actual circumstances that we should feel threatened by; it’s the fear of the circumstances that poses the real threat. The bottom line is that people with high aspirations are going to experience a proportionately high level of fear. If high aspirations are equal to high fear, then the flip side to that truth is that overcoming high fear is equal to achieving high aspirations. To crush fear doesn’t mean you eliminate it; crushing fear means you literally crush it down into smaller, more manageable parts and tackle one piece at a time.” I love this advice for several reasons. First, fear is a given â€" if you want to achieve anything in this world, you’re going to feel fear around it. So you have to “brave up” and walk into the fear â€" straight into it â€" all the while watching yourself in the process, and developing your own personal and effective coping strategies for moving forward despite the fear. Secondly, Richie talks about “crushing” fear.   He doesn’t mean that we’ll obliterate it â€" that’s not possible (or even desirable).   But we can break our goals down into manageable, bit-sized, doable steps, and commit to those, one day at a time.   After we accomplish each one, we need to stop and make time to appreciate ourselves and relish what we’ve done, and embrace   the bravery inside ourselves to tackle what we were most afraid of. Finally, I’d love to help you address your question about how to prioritize and not get distracted. Here’s another fabulous tip from Richie’s book: the “Will I regret it when I’m 80?” rule.  Regret can cripple our lives, and crush our feelings of hope, purpose and strength. (Here are the top 5 regrets I see in midlife professionals, and theyre devastating.) In evaluating all the options in front of you, Richie suggests asking these four questions: • Do you have a pressing thought or idea that won’t go away? (Make a list of all your pressing ideas.) • Looking at your list of ideas, what would you regret NOT doing? • If you had only a short time to live, and were required to rid yourself of all the things from your list but three, which would remain? • If you had to prioritize these few things in order from most important to least important, which order would you choose? Id then ask yourself, “What do these priorities reveal about what I care about most, and why? What are my deepest, most core values that these new directions reflect?” There you go â€" you’ve done it! Now you know what’s most important to you, why, and what to focus on first. So, are you ready to crush your fears and start something “stupid?” Truly, all you have to do is start. Then, you can pivot, adjust, and re-align when you need to. But starting is key. It’s your time to brave up. I hope thats helpful to you. Let me know how it goes! Best wishes to you, Kathy For more on how to become truer to yourself, watch my Facebook Live video How NOT Being True To Yourself Crushes Your Life and my TEDx Talk Time to Brave Up.
